La grammatica
Stop playing games: attenzione all’uso di stop (smettere o fermarsi). Se è seguito dall’infinito con il to, si traduce come "fermarsi per fare qualcosa".
Es.: I stopped to buy the newspaper, "Mi sono fermato per comprare".
Se è seguito, invece, dal gerundio ing significa "smettere di fare qualcosa".
Es.: I stopped buying the newspaper, "Ho smesso di comprare il giornale".
Do e make: significano entrambi "fare". Tuttavia non sono sinonimi: make generalmente si riferisce a "fabbricare, costruire"; do indica "effettuare o eseguire un’azione" (do si usa sempre con work: homework, housework, ecc.). Ma ci sono molte eccezioni.
You got me begging: si tratta di una particolare costruzione del verbo to get: get + complemento oggetto+ ing (oppure, più corretto: get + complemento oggetto + to con infinito), forma che esprime l’idea di causare o far fare.
Es.: "Mi fai sentire bene", You make me feel well - You get me feeling (to feel) well
L’idea di "far fare" si può anche esprimere con:
1.To get someone to do something (indurre). The boss got the secretary to write the letter (nota il "to" inf).
2. To have someone do something (indurre). The boss had the secretary write the letter.
3. To let someone do something (permettere). The boss let the secretary write the letter.
4. To make someone do something (obbligare, causare). The boss made the secretary write the letter.
