La grammatica
Greatest: si tratta di un superlativo. In inglese ci sono due modi per formare il superlativo:
1. Si aggiunge est agli aggettivi brevi (ossia monosillabi): es.: big diventa biggest;
2. Si aggiunge the most per gli aggettivi lunghi (ossia più di due sillabe): es.: important diventa the most important.
In genere i bisillabi che terminano in "Y" usano la forma est, mentre gli altri bisillabi usano la forma most: happy – happiest; famous - the most famous.
To start started started: è un verbo regolare che significa "incominciare". Può essere seguito da infinito oppure dal gerundio. Es.: I started playing the piano last year, oppure I started to play the piano last year.
Esistono altri due verbi che traducono l’italiano "incominciare": commence e begin. Commence significa begin, ma è molto più formale ed è raramente usato se non nello scritto. Begin è un sinonimo di start ma è un verbo irregolare (begin began begun).
