La grammatica
I’m asking for: to ask è un verbo regolare che significa "chiedere". Attenzione: mentre in italiano chiedere è seguito da un complemento oggetto o di termine, in inglese ask è seguito dal complemento oggetto (la persona) + for. Es.: "Chiese aiuto a sua sorella", He asked his sister for help.
A volte può anche essere seguito da altre preposizioni. Es.: Ask in significa "invitare qualcuno ad entrare": She asked them in, "Li invitò ad entrare". E ancora: Ask about, chiedere informazioni; Ask out, invitare ad uscire.
I gotta: gotta è un’espressione slang (ovvero "dialettale") che sta per I have got to e he has got to.
