Got me thinkin’: “Mi ha fatto pensare”. Esistono diversi modi per tradurre il concetto di “far fare”:
- let + comp.ogg + inf. senza to che esprime l’idea del permesso: I let him go.
- make + comp. ogg.+ inf senza to che esprime obbligo o causa: I made him go.
- get + comp. ogg. + gerundio (ing form) oppure infinito con to, che ha il significato di ottenere che uno faccia qualcosa (persuadere, ecc.): I got him to go (I got him thinking).
I should be: should è un verbo ausiliare che viene utilizzato per costruire il condizionale del verbo “dovere”. È sempre seguito dall’infinito senza to.
Es.: “Dovresti andare in vacanza”, You should go on holiday.
Anche il verbo difettivo ought to significa “dovere” al condizionale, ma rispetto a should indica anche “probabilità”.
Es.: “Sandra dovrebbe arrivare domani”, Sandra ought to get here tomorrow.
