La grammatica
I never thought I’d need you there when I cry: “Non ho mai pensato di avere bisogno di te quando piango”. Nota come mentre in italiano il verbo pensare è seguito dall’infinito (o in altre occasioni dal futuro) in inglese si usa il discorso indiretto.
Quando si ha il verbo “pensare” al presente la subordinata sarò formata dal futuro (will). Es.: I think that I’ll go (that è di solito omesso).
Quando si ha il verbo “pensare” al passato la subordinata si forma con would (passato di will e anche ausiliare del condizionale). Es.: I thought I’d (would) go; “Penso di andare a Vienna molto presto”, I think I will go to Vienna very soon.
Perciò, ricapitolando:
I think …… + will (in italiano infinito)
I thought …… + would (in italiano infinito passato).
I won't give in: to give/gave/given (dare) cambia significato a seconda della preposizione. Come nel seguente esercizio.
La preposizione mancante

Curiosità
Qual è la differenza tra when you’re gone e when you’ve gone?
La differenza è davvero minima. When you’re gone (gone è usato come aggettivo) dà l’idea di “Quando non ci sarai più”, mentre When you have gone si traduce in “Quando te ne sarai andato”.
Il primo dà forse l’idea di una perdita permanente.
